Rutland Herald:  As a primary care physician in Vermont for 40 years I want to encourage Vermont’s Legislature to give thoughtful consideration to proposed bills (H.207/S.88) that advocate universal, publicly financed primary care.

This approach to health care would give Vermonters easy and affordable access to primary care — the cornerstone of a health care delivery system. Primary care providers are the backbone of the medical care delivery system, and comparatively inexpensive.

I’m sure many other primary care providers would be supportive of this effort, as long as reasonable reimbursement is assured.

We must continue on the road toward single payer and this may be a good strategy to pursue at this time. I urge the Legislature to move this legislation forward so that it can be discussed and considered.
